Colour or Black & White Baby/Children Photography

I occasionally get asked if we offer our backgrounds in black & white or sepia. Our backgrounds were designed to be in colour and does not convert that well into black & white or sepia. The reason being black & white photography is really different shades of grey and when we turn our backgrounds into black & white, the rich detail we have becomes too many various shades of grey. Black & white photography, in my opinion, looks best with simple backgrounds.

Whether you opt for colour or black & white photography, consider the mood you wish to envoke and how you would like to capture and remember the moment. We are fortunate to be able to have a mixture of both styles in our memory books. Colour portraits let capture the beautiful colour of their baby soft skin or big eyes or hair colour while a simple black & white photograph lets you focus on the drama of a great smile or shape of their face. Now, if we could only have portraits with scratch and sniff so we can remember their "baby" smell.

Most Popular Fairy & Angel Backgrounds

Happy New Year Everyone!

At this time of the year, after the fun and crazy Christmas season, I like to take "stock" of what was popular with our customers. And without surprise, our most popular background continues to be our angel on the swing background. I think it is popular due to its soft muted colours and that it works with all ages of girls and baby boys. Our next most popular background is the garden inspired by Monet's Waterlilies painting. Fairies look very adorable in any of our garden series. (BTW, if you like fairies in garden artwork, see Cicely Barker's work over at art.com. Just do a search for her at the site.)

For the boys, our most popular background is the dock. The shades of blue and the nice wood colouring of our dock makes it a classic. Close behind is the background with the canoe or boathouse with the soft autumn colours on the tree. Please note that I supply white golf shirts for boys to wear for our portraits - it seems not many parents buy white for their children! (I don't even wear white... especially not when eating a pasta dinner!)

Our new background with the tree and pond is also coming on strong. It looks great for both boys and girls, especially with our new fairy dresses. Check out our new gallery on our website and see all the new backgrounds for 2007.

See you at the studio.
Ellen
