We’re happy to share a collection of photo tips and our humble opinions on some of the products we use. When taking photos, there are no absolute rules and if you have a digital camera, there has never been a better time to experiment and have some fun taking pictures of your children, family, friends etc. After you’ve taken a few thousand images, it is time to create some wonderful books, collages, CDs, etc. to share, enjoy and cherish. Here are some ideas to get you thinking about the possibilities: Get close - the background isn't as important as your child's expression. Try a tight crop, they give a modern fresh look to portraits… remember you meant to cut off part of their head! Get down – taking portraits at eye level provides a personal and inviting feeling because you are in “their space”. Children do not necessarily need to be looking straight into the camera for a connection to happen between your subject and viewer. (tip to avoid red eye, try asking people to look at your shoulder instead of right into the camera) Get candid - take pictures while your children are having fun playing with their favourite toys, sitting quietly with a book, or having a private tea party with their “friends”. Some of the best expressions and moments are of your children totally engrossed with an activity they love. Move away from the centre – for a more interesting portrait, try positioning your child off to one side. There is no rule that says your children need to be in the centre of the photograph, just remember to give some “looking room” for their point of view. Different angles – for even more interest, try taking the picture while up high and looking down or down low and looking up. Also try moving to the right or left of your child and notice how this changes the perspective of your subject! Keep it simple – simple clothing and backgrounds will keep the focus on your children and their expressions. Tell a story – grab the camera the next time you head to the park with your children and take a mix of fun and directed photos of your children and their friends. Have fun – encourage your children to hug each other, blow you kisses, show you their favourite toys, make funny faces, jump up, or, or, and just have fun. |
